NMC and TO ideas

Here are some ideas for your newest members and your oldest members! If you want details on a specific ideas, just shoot me an email and I will get you some more info!

On the 29th, the Big Sis’ were revealed to the new members in a candlelight ceremony with individually decorated candles for each new member. After the reveal, the whole chapter took part in a cookie shine.

All the seniors are all going to a job fair on campus called the “Big Event” and then going to dinner as a pledge class to celebrate the start of their senior year

We also did final match ups for Big/Little in September and we had the Bigs write letters to their potential Little's parents. They wrote the letters to let the parents know that their daughters were in safe hands at the Pi Beta Phi house.

Our TO has contacted University Career Services and is planning on having a speaker come to talk with the seniors. She is also having someone come and talk to the seniors about what to wear to an interview

The NM have viewed the Sam Spady video and listened to a young teen speaker who was involved in a drunk driving accident. At the meeting following this viewing we discussed the impact it had on the new members. The girls thought that the speaker had a powerful impact and it made the issue and consequences of alcohol more real.

Things our TO did in September : Cultural dinner at Rio Grande Mexican Restaurant* Potluck Dinner/ Grey's Anatomy night

We have had weekly Beta Bud dinners for the new members with the sophomore class since the first week of school. Every week we match the new members up with a sophomore and go to restaurant for dinner following the new member meeting. This has been a great way for the new members to get to know their potential big sisters’ before Big Sis Revelation. The girls favorite part was our final Beta Bud dinner at a restaurant downtown with their Big Sis

The transition officer has been hard at work getting together all the senior events ready for the fall semester. She has been working at getting professionals to come speak to the seniors about job interviews and opportunities outside of college. The seniors have also been involved with the new members by making a special appearance at one of their meetings. The seniors shared their favorite Pi Phi memories and gave insightful advice to new member pledge class.

One of our main goals this semester was to ensure that all upperclassmen, especially seniors, played a huge role in our new member class. We have hosted pledge class dinners with them, as well as other sisterhood events. Having the senior class more involved than in years past has set the bar high and shown the entire chapter how important it is to stay involved for four years

We are planning a shopping party for all the seniors at a boutique in owned by an alum. The party will be in the evening of Oct 23, and local Pi Phi alumni are also invited to attend. In addition to shopping and socializing, we will be given tips on how to dress professionally and maturely as we begin to enter the "real world". We are also planning a Senior Service Project where we will make care packages to send to American Troops in the Middle East

The new member executive council even has weekly executive meetings

The first Senior Alternate Meeting was held on September 21 and was run by our TO. It was held at one of our Alumna house. Her husband, who is the VP Finance of his company, spoke to the seniors about budgeting after college as well as the economic crisis going on in the country. He answered questions about credit cards and investing/saving money early.

Transition Officer created a Facebook group for Seniors only to help communicate up and coming events

The Vice President of Philanthropy led this New Member Orientation with an emphasis on our chapter's community service involvement and Pi Phi National Philanthropy. The new members participated in a mock ‘Speed Read’ so that they would understand the significance of this event to our national philanthropy.

The seniors had their first alternative meeting on September 16th. They discussed the responsibilities of seniors in the chapter and ways to remain involved. The members also brainstormed T-shirt designs. The transitional officer has started a senior spotlight each week to highlight a senior member and give the chapter a chance to learn about her. The transitional officer has also implemented a new award called the "Super Senior." This award is given to a senior member who goes above and beyond for the week. It has been a great tool to recognize individual members.

The first New Member Orientation night focused on the values of Pi Beta Phi. New members split into groups and each group was assigned a different value. Each group was given several tabloid type magazines and was instructed to cut out those that did and did not display Pi Phi’s values. This activity was so fun for the new members and really helped them to get to know one another better as well as learn about the values that shape our fraternity.

The second New Member Orientation focused on the 12 founders of Pi Beta Phi. Twelve older members dressed in time period appropriate clothing and performed an informational skit about the founders. Each ‘founder’ read information about themselves and how they became involved in the founding of Pi Beta Phi. The new members really seemed to enjoy this activity, as the older ‘founders’ implemented humorous accents and phrases.

The Big/Little event took place on Sunday, September 28th. I set up for a Cookie Shine which was held in honor of the Big/Little revealing. Each senior member of the families introduce their whole family and their new great grand little additions.

The new members took posters with the six pi phi values and what the values consist of on them and came up with two characters off of a television show. One character had to portray the value and the other character had to not display the value.

The New Member’s were also asked to bring an item that represented one of our Founders. They all had a chance to present their items during their meeting and prizes were given out for the girls who brought the two most creative items.

We have also had “GreekLifeEdu” sessions four times this month to encourage the New Members to come, bring their laptops, and be together and at the Pi Phi house as they complete the program
